Invitation to a lecture by Prof. Adam Daniel Rotfeld titled “Is history the teacher of life?”
The Jan Karski Institute for War Losses and the Jan Karski Educational Foundation invite you to a lecture titled “Is history the teacher of life?”, organized as part of the series “Shadows of War. Meetings on Losses and Memory”.
The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Adam Daniel Rotfeld – an eminent scholar, diplomat, expert in international relations and security, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. The meeting will be an opportunity to reflect on the role of history in shaping contemporary attitudes, social responsibility, and collective memory.
During the lecture, Prof. Rotfeld will address the question of whether history can indeed be the teacher of life, and how past experiences influence our understanding of contemporary challenges. The discussion will focus on issues of memory, war losses, responsibility, and the significance of history for building civic awareness.
Adam Daniel Rotfeld served as the Director of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute from 1991 to 2002. From 2001 to 2005, he was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and in 2005, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. In 2008, he was appointed a member, and subsequently Chairman, of the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament. In the same year, he assumed the role of co-chairman of the Polish-Russian Group for Difficult Issues. He was also a member of the so-called NATO Group of Experts – a team of experts preparing a new strategic concept for the Alliance.
Prof. Rotfeld is a lecturer, scientific editor of numerous reports, and author of over 400 scientific publications, including 20 books, as well as co-author of approximately 20 monographs.
We cordially invite you to participate in the meeting dedicated to history, memory, and reflection on its significance for contemporary times.
