Political Science (First Cycle, Part-time)

General Characteristics

Political science is a social science that deals with politics—understood as the totality of activities related to the exercise of political power, its function and role in social life, as well as the theory of its organization. The state is one of the fundamental categories of this discipline. Political science describes the state’s historical development, functions, nature, and mode of operation. It examines the state’s political system and regime. Political science also addresses the functioning of international organizations, the characteristics of contemporary global issues, European integration, and so on. At the national level, its areas of interest also include public administration, local government, political communication, and, finally, the third sector and civil society.

For many years, political science has also remained one of the most popular fields of study. **Its interdisciplinary nature makes it one of the most popular choices for bachelor’s degree programs in both Europe and the United States. **The leader in political science education in Poland *is undoubtedly the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw, the oldest and largest center for political science in Poland. The highest standards are confirmed by the **Education Quality Certificate** awarded by the **University Accreditation Commission** and the positive evaluation by the State Accreditation Commission** for the *political science* program. This leading position is also confirmed by annual rankings compiled by influential socio-political magazines.

First-cycle (bachelor’s) degree programs last six semesters and are intended for high school graduates. Individuals who have earned a Polish, foreign, international, or European high school diploma are eligible to apply.

The program is offered as a full-time program. Admission to the full-time program is based on high school graduation exam scores.

A graduate of a bachelor’s degree program possesses general knowledge that enables them to understand political phenomena and processes occurring on a global, regional, national, and local scale, as well as to analyze the relationships between the functioning of political institutions, societies, and individuals. They are familiar with the historical context and contemporary mechanisms of political systems.

Graduates possess the skills to apply the knowledge they have acquired in their professional work and personal lives while adhering to ethical principles. They are able to solve simple professional problems, participate in teamwork, lead teams of people carrying out assigned tasks, communicate with others, and collect, prioritize, process, and convey information.

Graduates are proficient in a foreign language at the B2 level of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and are able to use the specialized terminology necessary to practice their profession.

Graduates are prepared to work in government and local government administration, political party bodies, economic and social organizations, international institutions and organizations, as well as in the media and education. They are also prepared to pursue a master’s degree.
