Eurasian Studies (Master’s Degree, Full-time)

General Characteristics

Eurasian studies are a response to the growing needs of Poland and the European Union, which are seeking specialists in the comparative study of the political, economic, social, and cultural systems of the countries of Eurasia (post-Soviet states: Russia, the countries of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus, as well as the countries of the Middle East). Regardless of whether—and to what extent—these countries are interested in integration with the EU, they will cooperate with this organization. To varying degrees and with differing scopes, they will implement reforms aimed at strengthening their political standing and economic competitiveness on the global stage. Therefore, both parts of our Eurasian continent are reliant not so much on coexistence as on cooperation.

Graduates of the master’s program in *Eurasian Studies*, *specialists trained at the Department of Political Science and International Studies*, can play a huge role in this cooperation.

The program is designed for individuals holding a bachelor’s, engineering, or master’s degree in any field of study and is offered as a full-time program.

Admission to the program is based on an aptitude interview.

The program lasts four semesters.

The curriculum covers the history of selected countries, their armed conflicts, aspects of their foreign policy, the transformation of political systems, as well as courses related to ethnopolitics, culture from a sociological and political perspective, and the formation of political elites and political leadership. The program’s appeal is further enhanced by the opportunity to select courses according to the student’s interests and to pursue in-depth studies in a chosen region of Russia and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus, or the Middle East.

Graduates possess knowledge of the mechanisms underlying the functioning of political power, political movements, and interest groups, as well as the contemporary challenges facing selected countries from both national and international perspectives; they also have the ability to identify actual and potential threats in the political sphere.

Graduates are prepared to work in political science research centers, serve as experts, advisors, and political commentators, particularly with regard to selected countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Middle East.
