Internal Security (2nd cycle, part-time)

General Description of the Program

The modern world is full of challenges and crises; new threats are emerging, and those already known are escalating. In this context, the importance of internal security and public order in the policies pursued by public authorities is growing significantly. The public administration, economic, energy, social, and private sectors all need qualified personnel —among other things—to manage the affairs of the state and its citizens during crises and various types of threats, as well as to safeguard their business operations. So if you are interested in security issues, recognize the importance of this field, and see your professional future in this area, this program is for you.

Program Structure

Master’s degree programs last four semesters. These programs are intended for individuals holding a bachelor’s, engineering, or master’s degree in any field of study and are offered as full-time programs. Admission to the program is based on a written test.

Starting in the second semester, students choose one of two specializations:

• Crisis Management is a specialization for students who see their future in careers related to security management in public and private institutions. This specialization is for students who wish to deepen the knowledge of crisis management they acquired during their bachelor’s degree program, as well as for those who wish to gain new professional competencies. Courses offered include: Cross-Border Crime and Human Trafficking, Natural Disasters and Technical Failures, Conflict Resolution, Information Analysis in the National Security System, and others.
• **Energy Security**—this specialization directly addresses contemporary threats in this area. Here, students acquire the skills to analyze and provide consulting services in the energy sector, as well as to manage energy security and the energy transition. Courses offered in this program include: Poland’s Energy Policy, Renewable Energy Sources, Planning and Financing of Investments in the Energy Sector, Megatrends in the Energy Sector, and EU Climate and Energy Policy.

Classes are held on weekdays, mainly in the new, comfortable Collegium Politicum building and on the Central Campus of the University of Warsaw.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive and in-depth knowledge about contemporary threats to national security. The program combines the strengths of traditional university studies—which provide the necessary theoretical and methodological foundation—with a focus on specialized, practical fields related to the security of individuals, communities, institutions related to the functioning of public authorities and the private sector.

Graduates of the master’s program possess in-depth knowledge of social, political, and psychological issues, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world factors affecting internal security and public order. They possess an appropriate range of knowledge in the humanities, the ability to understand the concepts and complexities of security, and the ability to choose the optimal course of action under given circumstances. Graduates assess risks and anticipate the consequences of their decisions, solve complex professional problems, plan their independent professional careers (including starting their own business), participate creatively in teamwork, and lead teams.
