Invitation to the Conference – U.S. Security Strategy as Zeitenwende for Global Politics

The Chair of Strategic Studies and International Security at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw, and the Association for Strategic Studies invite you to a nationwide academic conference U.S. Security Strategy as Zeitenwende for Global Politics. The event will take place on January 26, 2026, in the Ballroom of the Tyszkiewicz-Potocki Palace.

The contemporary international security architecture is undergoing a fundamental transformation. The term Zeitenwende, used in the conference title, suggests that the new U.S. strategy represents a historic turning point that will redefine not only Washington’s priorities but also the balance of power in global politics. Experts will analyze the military dimension of the strategy, the issue of access to resources, and the new form of great power politics.

Conference Programme

10:00 – Conference Opening
The conference will be officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, Dr. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk, Associate Professor.

10:15 – Panel I: Sources and Global Significance of the New U.S. National Security Strategy
Domestic political context for the new Strategy – particular significance of the issue of access to resources – military dimension of the strategy, including the approach to armaments and arms control – what form of power politics the Strategy announces.

  • Introductions: Dr. Aleksandra Jarczewska (UW), Dr. Kamila Pronińska, Associate Professor (UW), Dr. Piotr Śledź (UW).
  • Moderation: Professor Roman Kuźniar (UW).

12:00 – Panel II: Implications of the New Strategy for Transatlantic Relations and the Security of Poland and Europe
NATO’s place in U.S. security policy – challenges for the security of Poland and Europe in light of the new U.S. strategy – what this means for Russia.

  • Introductions: Director Filip Jasiński (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Eugeniusz Smolar (CSM), Dr. Kamil Zajączkowski, Associate Professor (Director of CE UW).

  • Moderation: Dr. Agnieszka Bieńczyk-Missala, Associate Professor (Vice-Dean for International Cooperation, Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, UW).

15:00 – Panel III: Source Materials on Polish Strategic Culture
The conference will conclude with an internal discussion of the Association for Strategic Studies.

  • Introductions: Dr. Aleksander Głogowski, Associate Professor (Jagiellonian University), Dr. Tomasz Pawłuszko, Associate Professor (University of Opole).
