The latest book by Prof. Włodzimierz Anioł, Ph.D., titled “Bread and Circuses: Traditionalist Populism from a Comparative Perspective,” has been published. The book examines traditionalist populism from a comparative perspective. It has been particularly characteristic of the ruling forces over the past 15 years in Central and Eastern European countries, but also of the policies pursued by the authorities in Turkey, India, Brazil, and, finally, the United States, among others. In this monograph, Prof. Anioł presents profiles of the leading figures of this movement and emphasizes the key role played by affective politics—which is based on emotions. The author discusses the two main pillars of populist governance, conventionally referred to in the book as “bread and circuses.” Prof. Anioł emphasizes that the monograph offers a broad international comparative perspective and employs a multidisciplinary approach that combines the viewpoint of traditional political science with psychological, sociological, and cultural studies perspectives.
