The latest book by Professor Włodzimierz Anioł, entitled “Bread and Circuses. Traditionalist Populism in Comparative Perspective,” has been published. The book addresses traditionalist populism in comparative perspective. It is particularly characteristic of the forces governing over the past 15 years in Central and Eastern European states, but also of the policies pursued by the authorities of Turkey, India, Brazil, and ultimately the United States. In the monograph, Professor Anioł presents portraits of leading figures of this movement and emphasizes the key role played by affective politics, which is based on emotions. The author discusses the two main pillars of populist governance, conventionally referred to in the book as “bread and circuses.” Professor Anioł emphasizes that the monograph encompasses a broad international comparative perspective and employs a multidisciplinary approach that combines the viewpoint of traditional political science with psychological, sociological, and cultural perspectives. The book has been published by the University of Warsaw Press and is available as an e-book on the publisher’s website. We congratulate Professor Anioł on the new publication and encourage readers to explore the book.
