Off-site Conference entitled ‘Security in Science, Didactics, and Administration’ in Chęciny
At the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies (WNPiSM), security was discussed both substantively and practically! At the end of April, the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies held an off-site conference entitled ‘Security in Science, Didactics, and Administration’. The conference focused on both substantive and practical aspects of security issues. The event began with a report on activities undertaken by the UW Security Office, presented by Mr. Sławomir Obliński, Director of the Office. On behalf of WNPiSM, Vice-Dean Dr. Tomasz Godlewski presented a report on the activities of the Faculty’s Security Team. The Team’s activities to date have included: increasing the level of security for access to the building at ul. Nowy Świat 67, expanding security infrastructure through the installation of monitoring and identification of new camera locations, and developing tools for direct contact with the UW Guard Service in the form of security buttons and phones in key Faculty buildings.
During the off-site conference, academic and administrative staff underwent comprehensive training on critical incidents that may occur within the university environment. The sessions were enriched with practical exercises on reaction and behavior in various dangerous and unexpected situations. Finally, an analysis of participants’ behavior during simulations was conducted. Appropriate response patterns to be applied in such crisis situations and actions to be taken were discussed. Another key element of the off-site conference was a lecture on cybersecurity. It was delivered by a representative of the Department of Information Technology, Colonel Dr. Piotr Potejko. The lecture discussed the most common cyber threats faced by university employees and potential preventive actions they should take in their daily work. The results of a cyberattack simulation conducted on administrative staff a few days before the conference were also thoroughly analyzed. The experiment involved sending a message with typical organizational content containing a phishing link. WNPiSM intends to continue security training not only in theoretical but also in practical aspects. The goal of these activities is and will be to inform about current threats and to develop appropriate behaviors and reactions.
