Report from the conference “U.S. Security Strategy as a Zeitenwende for Global Politics”
On Monday, 26 January 2026, a nationwide academic conference entitled “U.S. Security Strategy as a Zeitenwende for Global Politics” was held in the Ballroom of the Tyszkiewicz-Potocki Palace. The event was organised by the Department of Strategic and International Security Studies of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw, and the Strategic Studies Association.
The meeting brought together experts, diplomats, and international relations scholars who analysed the impact of the new United States strategy on the global balance of power and regional security.
The conference was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, Dr hab. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk, Professor. In her address, she emphasised the significance of the American strategy in the face of the transformation of the contemporary security architecture.
The first part of the proceedings, moderated by Professor dr hab. Roman Kuźniar, focused on the domestic political context of the strategy and its military dimension.
Dr Aleksandra Jarczewska, Dr hab. Kamila Pronińska, Professor, and Dr Piotr Śledź discussed, among other issues, the growing problem of access to raw materials, Washington’s approach to arms control, and the new form of power politics.
The second panel, moderated by Dr hab. Agnieszka Bieńczyk-Missala, Professor (Vice-Dean for International Cooperation at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw), was devoted to the implications of the strategy for transatlantic relations.
Speakers included Director Filip Jasiński (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Eugeniusz Smolar (CSM), and Dr hab. Kamil Zajączkowski (Director of the Centre for Europe, University of Warsaw). The experts analysed NATO’s place in current U.S. policy, challenges for the Alliance’s eastern flank, and anticipated Russian responses to American strategic actions.
The event concluded with an internal discussion of the Association for Strategic Studies concerning source materials on Polish strategic culture. The introduction to the debate was prepared by Dr hab. Aleksander Głogowski, Professor (Jagiellonian University) and Dr hab. Tomasz Pawłuszko (University of Opole).
