Report on the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Prof. Dariusz Popławski, Ph.D.
The ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Dariusz Popławski, Ph.D. took place on November 20, 2025, in the historic interiors of the Tyszkiewicz-Potocki Palace (University of Warsaw Museum). The event brought together university and department officials, colleagues, students, and friends of the Professor, providing an opportunity to honor his long-standing contribution to the development of international relations studies.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Wiesław Lizak and Dr. Joanna Starzyk-Sulejewska, Ph.D., professor, who welcomed the assembled guests and provided an introduction to the event.
The official portion of the event consisted of congratulatory speeches highlighting the professor’s scholarly achievements, his dedication to teaching, and his role in shaping the academic community at the University of Warsaw. The following speakers took the floor:
- Maciej Raś, Ph.D., Prof. (Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Educational Quality),
- Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk, Ph.D., Prof. at the University of Warsaw(Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw),
- Jakub Zajączkowski, Ph.D. (Chair of the Scientific Council for International Relations at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw),
- Prof. Edward Haliżak, Ph.D. (President of the Polish Society for International Studies).
During the speeches, the contributions of Prof. Dariusz Popławski, Ph.D. as an outstanding scholar of the history of international relations, Polish foreign policy, and Austrian studies. There were also personal recollections and well-wishes shared by the numerous guests in attendance.
Prof. Dariusz Popławski, Ph.D. has been affiliated with the University of Warsaw for decades and is an undisputed authority in the field of the history of international relations and the foreign policy of German-speaking countries. His research focuses on issues related to Austrian foreign policy, the status of neutrality in international relations, and Polish foreign policy. His works, including key monographs on Polish-Austrian relations, represent a fundamental contribution to the understanding of political processes in Central Europe.
As a highly regarded educator and mentor to successive generations of scholars, the professor played a key role in the development of the Warsaw school of international relations. His publications constitute the canon of the field, serving as a source of knowledge for both students and experts in the history of diplomacy and contemporary international relations.
