Report on the Latest Science Café Hosted by Prof. Zbigniew Lasocik

On Monday, December 15, 2025, another meeting of Prof. Zbigniew Lasocik’s Science Café (Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw) took place. This time, the guest was Mr. Andrzej Seweryn, Director of the Polish Theater in Warsaw. The Director’s lecture was titled “I See My Theater….” The reference to Stanisław Wyspiański’s famous line is obvious, but it was not the vision of theater as such that was the central focus of the Director’s presentation, but rather a reflection on what it means to produce good theater, how to offer audiences art of the highest caliber, and how to reach their emotions. In Mr. Andrzej Seweryn’s remarks, as well as in the discussion, the topic of “modern art” came up. As it turns out, this term continues to spark quite serious controversy. The participants also discussed the state of theater in Poland, theatrical life in general, and the professional and social circumstances of actors.
Since the gathering took place in a festive atmosphere, the tables were adorned with poppy seed cake (baked by Ms. Katarzyna Lasocik) and spruce twigs. There was also a delightful artistic, visual, and functional touch. This was thanks to the Friends of Anna Szymańska and Robert Szumielewicz’s Café, who prepared exquisitely beautiful Christmas tree ornaments especially for this gathering and presented them as gifts to the Café’s guest and its organizers.
Thank you.

On behalf of the Science Café, we wish you good health and holiday cheer, but also a deeper reflection on the world around us—a world that does not always bring such joy.
