On July 8, the Faculty of Political Science and Media Studies at the University of Warsaw hosted a seminar titled “Authoritarian Learning Across the Pond,” which focused on the transnational spread of ideas, practices, and political strategies among right-wing populists.
The event was organized jointly by the Department of Methodology at the Faculty of Political Science and Media Studies, University of Warsaw, and the Section of European Studies at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
In the first panel, Anna Wojciuk (Faculty of Political Science and Media Studies, University of Warsaw) and Edit Zgut-Przybylska (Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences) presented the results of their joint research on the mechanisms of transnational learning among right-wing populists in Hungary, Poland, and the United States. R. Daniel Kelemen (Georgetown University) provided commentary on the presentation, and Joanna Fomina (IFiS, Polish Academy of Sciences) moderated the discussion.
In the second panel, Ákos Kopper (ELTE University) presented a paper on Viktor Orbán’s international significance as a symbol of populist movements. Anna Wojciuk served as the discussant, and Edit Zgut-Przybylska moderated the panel.
