We invite you to a research seminar with Prof. Mark J. Kaswan from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. During the meeting, Prof. Kaswan will deliver a lecture entitled “Happiness, Democracy, and the Socialist Imaginary”, followed by a discussion.
Prof. Mark J. Kaswan is a political scientist affiliated with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he works in the field of political science. He received his PhD in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2010. His research interests include primarily democratic theory, the history of political thought, community and economic development, the cooperative movement, utilitarianism, and the relationships between happiness, democracy, and the organization of social life. He is the author of the book “Happiness, Democracy, and the Cooperative Movement”, devoted to, among other things, the thought of William Thompson and the significance of the concept of happiness for understanding democracy and the cooperative movement.
The seminar is scheduled for 27 May 2026, Wednesday at 11:15 AM in Room 308 in the Auditorium Building.
