Students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Media Studies Visit the Veterans Center

Erasmus+ students studying at our department visited the Center for Veterans of Overseas Operations. The visit took place as part of the department’s collaboration with this institution and was part of a course on international security and overseas missions.

The meeting began with a presentation on the functioning of the Polish veteran support system and the activities of the Veteran Center. The students had the opportunity to learn about the institutional arrangements in place in Poland regarding care for individuals participating in military and stabilization operations abroad. Another important part of the visit was a lecture by Colonel Tomasz Panek—a veteran of the mission in Iraq and former commander of the Polish Military Contingent in Lebanon from 2022 to 2023. The speaker shared his experiences from serving abroad under the United Nations flag and answered students’ questions regarding the practical aspects of participating in international missions.

The visit’s itinerary also included a tour of the Hall of Tradition, during which the students learned about the history of Poland’s involvement in military missions abroad. The event concluded with the laying of a memorial candle at the monument dedicated to those who died on missions and operations abroad.
