Study Visit of Faculty Researchers to Southeast Asia as Part of the NCN OPUS Grant

Study Visit of Faculty Researchers to Southeast Asia as Part of the NCN OPUS Grant

Between 31 January and 8 February, Dr hab. Jakub Zajączkowski, Dr hab. Dorota Heidrich, and Dr Saroj K. Aryal conducted a study visit to Southeast Asia as part of the project funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) OPUS programme entitled The Responses of Emerging Global South Powers to the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and the Consequences for International Order”.

During the visit, the researchers conducted a series of seminars, expert meetings, and consultations with representatives of academic circles, think tanks, public institutions, diplomatic communities, and the media.

The programme included meetings with:

  • Dr Dino Patti Djalal, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and Chairman of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia;
  • Prof. Dewi Fortuna Anwar, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN);
  • researchers from the Department of International Relations at the University of Indonesia;
  • scholars from BINUS University;
  • analysts from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies.

The discussions focused on the role of Global South states in the transforming international order, the perception of the war in Ukraine by decision-makers and public opinion, relations between the European Union and the United States and emerging powers, and the challenges of cooperation in an increasingly fragmented and competitive international environment.

The team presented preliminary research findings from the grant and conducted workshops for first-, second-, and third-cycle students on contemporary geopolitical complexity and the future of international cooperation.

The visit constituted another stage in the implementation of the project. Previously, the researchers conducted field research and participated in academic conferences in Latin America, where they also presented initial results of their work.

The OPUS grant is being implemented by an international research consortium with partners from several continents. Regular project meetings are also held at the University of Warsaw, strengthening cooperation and enabling in-depth comparative analyses.

We sincerely thank all partners for the inspiring discussions and their commitment to the development of international academic cooperation!
