Success of students and doctoral candidates in the 3rd edition of the competition for the best diploma and doctoral thesis in the field of forced displacement and refugee studies, organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Poland, John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.

Works prepared under the supervision of Prof. Jolanta Itrich-Drabarek, Dr. Dorota Heidrich, and Prof. Cezary Żołędowski were awarded and distinguished.

Awarded works include:

Bachelor’s Theses
1st Place:

  • Iga Matejowska – “The role of intercultural assistants in the integration of children with migratory experience and their families into the Polish education system.” The thesis supervisor was Dr. Cezary Żołędowski, university professor.
  • Zuzanna Wywigacz – “The significance of the European Union solidarity mechanism for mitigation of migration crises.” The thesis was supervised by Dr. Dorota Heidrich.

Distinction: Bogdan Lazaruk – “Securitization of migration in Italian domestic policy: “Security decrees” and international law.” The thesis supervisor was Dr. Dorota Heidrich.

Master’s Theses
1st Place: • Kwan Yu Fung – “Extension and Continuation of Conflict-Related Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Displacement Setting: a Case of Syrian Refugees in Jordan.” The thesis was supervised by Dr. Dorota Heidrich.

2nd Place: • Favour Obonyilo – “Internal Displacement in Northern-Eastern Nigeria: A Case Study of NGOs Reintegration Efforts.” The thesis was written under the academic supervision of Dr. Dorota Heidrich.

Distinction: • Jannie Top – “Securitisation of Forced Migration and Criminalisation of Solidarity; The Implications on Humanitarian Action in European Union’s Mediterranean Member States (EUMMS).” The thesis supervisor was Dr. Dorota Heidrich.

Doctoral Theses
Distinction: • Mateusz Krępa – “From support to contestation – activities of non-governmental organizations in the field of migration in Poland regarding state security policy in the years 2015–2023.” The academic supervisor for the thesis was Prof. Jolanta Itrich-Drabarek.

Among the laureates are also graduates of the NOHA program. Congratulations also go to the program directors, Prof. Patrycja Grzebyk and Dr. Elżbieta Mikos-Skuza.
