Symposium in Honour of Minister Krzysztof Skubiszewski entitled “Poland and Europe’s Strategic Autonomy”

On 7 May 2026, a symposium in honour of Minister Krzysztof Skubiszewski entitled “Poland and Europe’s Strategic Autonomy” was held. Dean Prof. Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk opened the event by welcoming the guests and emphasising how much the Faculty values its long-standing cooperation with the Krzysztof Skubiszewski Foundation.

The President of the Foundation, Prof. Piotr Skubiszewski, read out the verdict of the jury responsible for awarding the prize in the “Minister Krzysztof Skubiszewski Competition for the Best Master’s Thesis on Polish Foreign Policy after 1945”. The award was presented to Kamil Wojnowski, MA, for his thesis entitled “The Role and Significance of Geopolitics in Polish Foreign Policy in the Years 2007–2023”, supervised by Dr hab. Dorota Heidrich and reviewed by Dr hab. Prof. UW Maciej Raś.

The work on the Foundation’s award was carried out by the Competition Jury composed of: Chair – Prof. dr hab. Roman Kuźniar, Members – Prof. dr hab. Dariusz Popławski, Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Szeptycki, Dr hab. Prof. UW Agnieszka Bieńczyk-Missala, Dr hab. Prof. UW Katarzyna Kołodziejczyk, Dr hab. Prof. UW Maciej Raś, and Dr Aleksandra Jarczewska.

The introductory lecture was delivered by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence, Paweł Zalewski, who later, together with Prof. Roman Kuźniar, shared his reflections with the symposium participants on Poland’s role in shaping the security and future of Europe.

The event concluded with a panel discussion featuring experts, moderated by Dr hab. Prof. UW Agnieszka Bieńczyk-Missala. The discussion included: Dr Bartłomiej Nowak (Polish Investment and Trade Agency), Dr hab. Agnieszka Legucka, Prof. AFiB Vistula (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and Minister Konrad Szymański (former Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
