Workshop “Publish or Perish? Meet the Editor: How to Publish in Peer-Reviewed Journals” by prof. Mona Krewel (VU of Wellington)

This workshop offers PhD students and early career researchers an insider perspective on the peer-review and journal publication process in political science and related social science disciplines. Drawing on experiences as Lead Editor of the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties (JEPOP), the session discusses how manuscripts are evaluated, how reviewers are selected, what typically leads to desk rejections or revise-and-resubmit decisions, and how authors can navigate the increasingly difficult publication environment in times of AI strategically and successfully.

The workshop will also address broader structural challenges within contemporary academic publishing, including reviewer shortages, long review times, and disciplinary differences in reviewing cultures. In addition, practical advice will be provided on choosing journals, responding to reviewer comments, preparing revision letters, and avoiding common mistakes in the submission process. The session is designed to be interactive and will include ample opportunity for participants to discuss their own publication projects and issues.

Time: Monday June 1st 10-12Place: Centre for Excellence in Social Sciences, BUW, ul. Dobra 56/66 pok. 2.90
