Workshop “Publish or Perish? Meet the Editor: How to Publish in Peer-Reviewed Journals” with Prof. Mona Krewel (VU of Wellington)

The workshop offers doctoral students and early-career researchers an insider’s view of the review and publication process in journals in the field of political science and related social science disciplines. Drawing on her experience as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties (JEPOP), the session will discuss how manuscripts are evaluated, how reviewers are selected, what typically leads to the rejection of an article or a decision requiring revisions and resubmission, and how authors can strategically and effectively navigate the increasingly challenging publication environment in the age of artificial intelligence. The workshop will also address broader structural challenges associated with contemporary academic publishing, including reviewer shortages, lengthy review times, and disciplinary differences in review culture. In addition, practical advice will be provided on selecting journals, responding to reviewers’ comments, preparing revision letters, and avoiding common mistakes in the submission process. The session is interactive and will provide participants with numerous opportunities to discuss their own publication projects and related issues.
