Prof. Zbigniew Lasocik, Ph.D. – Doctor of Law and Criminology (1991), Habilitated Doctor of Law and Criminology (2004), Professor of Law and Criminology (2013); Professor, Director of the Human Trafficking Research Center; author of over 110 publications on human trafficking and forced labor, crime, the prison system, the police, the sociology of total institutions, the prevention of torture, and civil society; leader of several international research projects funded by the European Commission; from 2007 to 2012, member of the UN Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture in Geneva; expert for the UN, the Council of Europe, the European Commission, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on human rights, democracy, crime, and the prison system; a fellow at, among others, Harvard University, Columbia University in New York, the London School of Economics, Sam Houston University in Huntsville, John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, and the University of Northern Colorado. He edited Poland’s first textbook on human trafficking. He is also the author of several dozen popular science articles.
