Prof. Tomasz Żyro, Ph.D. – professor of political science at the University of Warsaw. He specializes in the history of ideas and political theory. In the early 1990s, he was a fellow at the University of Chicago and Yale University. He conducted research as a fellow and professor at the University of Trier, the Free University of Berlin, and the Sorbonne (Paris II, Panthéon), the University of Ottawa, and the Istituto Italo-Germanico in Trento. He is the author of two books on American political and intellectual debates: *God’s Plantation: A Story of American Utopian Mind* and *Ideologia Americana. “Origins of the Political Beliefs.” He is also the author of the book *Introduction to Politics* (in Russian translation). In 2008, he published the book *Political Will: Seven Essays on Practical Philosophy*, which provides a historical overview of discussions concerning the problem of will in the political sphere (the book received an honorable mention from the Polish Academy of Sciences). With his essay “The Idea of Covenant and the Rise of Nationalism ,” he contributed to the book titled “Beyond Uniqueness: Nationalisms in Comparative Perspective” (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2010). In recent years, he has edited two anthologies: “Policy Expertise in Contemporary Democracies, ”edited by Steven Brooks (University of Wisconsin, Ann Arbor) and Dorota Stasiak (Hertie School of Governance, Berlin), and “Political Representation.” The first, devoted to the place and role of experts in contemporary public life, was published by Ashgate in Farnham. The second describes deficits in political representation.
