Władysław Bułhak, Habil. D. – Habilitated Doctor of Social Sciences in the discipline of security studies (2019); Doctor of Humanities in history (1998). Academic and research staff member at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies, University of Warsaw; previously, among others, an expert at the Centre for Eastern Studies, PAP correspondent in Moscow, expert at the Polish Institute of International Affairs, Deputy Director of the Public Education Office of the Institute of National Remembrance (2000-2006, 2011-2016), and research fellow at the Historical Research Office of the Institute of National Remembrance. Visiting Professor at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense (2019). Lecturer at Collegium Civitas and the Faculty of Artes Liberales, University of Warsaw (2021-2022). Organizer and participant of several dozen international scientific conferences, mainly dedicated to intelligence issues. Coordinator of the Need to Know project (a series of thirteen international conferences on intelligence issues from 2011-2024). Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the annual journal “Aparat Represji w Polsce Ludowej” (40 MNiSW points). Member of the program and scientific committees of the Zagreb Security Forum.
Research Interests
Currently: Security studies. Intelligence studies in contemporary and historical perspectives. Social aspects of intelligence and clandestine activities (socially assisted intelligence). Methods of intelligence and counterintelligence work. Intelligence research (methodological aspects). Previously: Geopolitics, diplomacy, and international relations. The Polish question in the geopolitical thinking of Russian elites, particularly Russian democrats. Russia in the political thinking of Polish liberals and nationalists. Operational planning of Warsaw Pact forces.
