Jarosław Ćwiek-Karpowicz, Ph.D. ( habilitation degree) Master of Social Sciences in Security Studies (2019), Doctor of Humanities in Political Science (2010), Associate Professor, research and teaching staff member at the Department of Internal Security; Head of the Department of Eurasian Studies from 2013 to 2014; and Secretary of the Department of Eastern Studies from 2005 to 2009. He was a fellow of the Foundation for Polish Science, the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and the U.S. government’s IVLP program. From 2009 to 2016, he worked at the Polish Institute of International Affairs as an analyst and senior specialist, coordinator of the Eastern Europe program, and head of the Research and Analysis Office. During that time, he carried out numerous international research projects, including: “Governance at the National and European Levels: Polish-Norwegian Cooperation for More Effective Security, Energy, and Migration Policies, ” funded by the National Center for Research and Development with Norwegian funds, and “Can Polarization Be Overcome? Western, Central, and Eastern Europe and Russia Between Integration and Renationalization, ” funded by the German Council on Foreign Relations. Since 2016, he has served in the diplomatic service, first as Economic Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Riga, and then as Economic and Scientific Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tel Aviv. On December 1, 2024, he was appointed by the prime minister to the position of director of PISM.
