The Department of Political History was established in 2019 as a separate organizational unit within the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies. It is the successor to the former Division of Modern Political History. The Department’s staff conducts research (political history, security history, history of political systems and administration, social history), as well as teaching and outreach activities. Faculty members hold important positions within the University’s governing structure: – Dr. Seweryn Dmowski is a member of the University of Warsaw Senate. Faculty members of the Department serve in important government positions: – Dr. Błażej Poboży serves as Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration; – Dr. hab., Dr. h.c. Bartłomiej Zdaniuk serves as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Moldova. Institutional Cooperation The Department's staff is involved in: cooperation with public institutions (including the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Moldova, the NATO Military Police Expertise Center, and the NATO Force Integration Unit Poland); expert activities at the national level in the field of educational policy, with a particular focus on civic education (including the Ministry of Education substantive work within the Stakeholder Council for the Political Science program. Faculty members of the Department serve on the program councils of foundations and associations.

- The Political History of Germany in the 20th Century (with a special focus on the Third Reich).
- The political, social, and institutional history of Central Asia (with particular emphasis on the periods of Tsarist and Soviet colonization), as well as issues related to the historiography and philosophy of history of the region in today’s independent states.
- The political history and institutional history of ephemeral states and territories with limited sovereignty in interwar Eurasia.
- Historical Policy and Issues of Historical Memory.
- A History of Polish Social Movements.
- A History of Polish and General Political Institutions (with a particular focus on social and professional self-governing bodies and Polish political parties).
- History of international relations (with a particular focus on Polish-Belgian, Polish-French, Polish-Moldovan, Polish-Romanian, Polish-Vatican, and Polish-Italian relations, as well as relations in Central Asia).
- Theories of International Relations.
- The Structure of the Roman Catholic Church (with particular emphasis on the issues of sede vacante and episcopology).
- The Political, Social, and Cultural Aspects of Modern Soccer.
